Suzann W. Buchta (D) is currently serving her second term on the County Legislature, and took her Oath of Office on January 1, 2007.
Ms. Buchta represents constituents who reside in the seventeenth legislative district, which is an area that is comprised of the south side of the Village of Johnson City, Westover, and Oakdale.
Legislator Buchta currently serves as Chair of the Broome County Government's Education, Culture and Recreation Committee, is a member of the Health and Human Services Committee, and the Transportation and Rural Development Committee as well as being a member of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Board of Directors and the Binghamton Zoo Board.
Her legislative duties cover a wide area of departments and services, including the Department of Social Services, Family Violence Prevention, Office for the Aging, Youth Bureau, Veterans Services, Broome Community College, Cornell Cooperative Extension, County Historian, Broome County Public Library, Department of Parks and Recreation, Veterans Memorial Arena, Forum, and contract agencies pertaining to education and the arts.
Ms. Buchta is a retired eighth grade teacher who spent thirty-two years teaching locally, with most of those years of service being at the East Middle School in Binghamton, New York. She is a graduate of East Stroudsburg College and has a Bachelor of Science degree in education, major in history and government.
Suzann resides at 33 Third Street in the Village of Johnson City.
