Daniel A. Schofield (R) is 53 years old and has been elected to the Legislature for nine consecutive two-year terms. His colleagues have elected him to serve as County Legislative Chairman for the past ten consecutive years. Dan is recorded as the longest serving Chairman on the Broome County Legislature. Most recently Dan has been selected by his peers to serve as Minority Leader for the Broome County Legislature.

When elected in 1990 to his first term on the Legislature Dan served as Chairman of the Finance Committee. During the next four years Dan led the Legislature to a ten percent property tax reduction. Dan was also awarded the “tax cutter of the year award” by Lieutenant Governor Mary Donohue in May, 2000. Dan also served on the Transportation Committee, Intergovernmental Committee, Personnel Committee, Transportation Advisory Board, Jury Board, and the Law Library Board. More recently Dan served on the Greater Binghamton Coalition (GBC) and was appointed by Governor Pataki to serve on the University Council at Binghamton University. Currently Dan will serve on the Public Works, Education, Culture and Recreation Committees.

While serving as Chairman on the Legislature Dan was appointed by the President of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) to serve on the Committee that would address escalating Medicaid costs throughout the State. Dan was the only Chairman in New York State to serve on this committee. Dan was also appointed as President of the Board of Chairs for NYSAC in 2006.

Dan’s precious experience in government includes four two-year terms as Trustee in the Village of Endicott. As Trustee Dan served on the Airport, Police, Parks, Fire, and Public Works Committees. Dan also served on the Ideal Hospital Board of Managers.

Dan is an Accounting manager at IBM. He and his wife reside at 19 Cornell Ave in the Village of Endicott. They have been married for the past 32 years and have four children that also reside in the Village of Endicott.
